Meet the artist
Hi, I’m Kayla
Hi, I’m Kayla — devoted wife, mom of 7, watercolor artist, writer, speaker and founder of Legacy Roots Studio, the arts branch of Legacy Roots Co.
Whether it’s teaching my watercolor workshops here in my little mountain town of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, painting custom pieces for clients all over the world, or sharing my favorite prints with my pen pal club, I cherish the opportunity to share art with the world. I believe beauty and faith are meant to be lived and experienced slowly— in the everyday moments that shape our homes and hearts.
Each piece of art and reflection I create is meant to help you find stillness and savor what God’s placed right in front of you.
“Kayla’s paintings are simply beautiful!”
It’s clear that she pours her heart and soul into creating each one. Her art is made with love.

My Story
The Heart Behind the Society
I started painting again in one of the hardest seasons of my life — when my days and months were spent in hospital rooms and quiet waiting.
My daughter spent 140 days in the NICU, 6 hours away from home and my other 6 kids. She continued to spend most of 2025 in and out of the hospital, surgery to surgery.
Watercolor became my way of slowing down (and therapy!) — choosing to see God’s beauty and goodness in the smallest details and despite the pain I’m walking through.
The Slow & Savor Society was born from that place– to give you something tangible to slow down with each month.
My hope is that each envelope feels like a deep breath— a reminder that peace and beauty aren’t far away and they don’t need to be chased… they’re right here, waiting to be noticed in your everyday, ordinary life.
Ready to Get Started?
Be My Pen Pal
Friend, the pace of the world will always ask you to hurry.
The Slow & Savor Society is your permission to step out of that rush — to breathe, rest, and to help you create margin for what matters most.
Through art, storytelling, meaningful practices, and intentional rhythms, each month’s envelope is designed to help you notice beauty, deepen your faith, cherish your family, and love others well.
I’d be honored to send the very first envelope to your mailbox.
Slow down with us.
Step away from your to-do list and into a peaceful evening of creativity.
These workshops are designed for beginners — whether you’ve never picked up a brush or simply want a gentle refresher. You’ll learn foundational watercolor techniques in a relaxed, encouraging environment where the focus is on progress, not perfection.
We’ll move slowly, layer by layer, so you feel confident using your brush, controlling water, and mixing color. By the end of the evening, you’ll leave with a finished painting and a deeper understanding of how watercolor works.
Come on your own or invite a friend. Coffee, wine, ice cream, and small bites will be available for purchase during the event, and all painting supplies are included.
Seats are limited to 12 participants per session to ensure personal attention.
